During the times I’m not flying out of town I’ll post about local things in Michigan. There’s always something to do, and see.

The unique thing about my blog is how I manage to travel whilst being a mother of 4 kids and 2 fur babies, maintaining healthy relationships, staying sane to a very demanding job, and keeping up with my blog. (you’ll get to know me, and my busy life as time goes on.)

Well I hope I gave some perspective on the things to look forward to. I left out somethings but you can find more in other menu items.

Oh Flower Day!

It’s almost that time of year again, when Detroit’s Eastern Market fills will blooms of the brightest, most spectacular flowers you’ve ever seen.

Hundreds of flower, plant and tree growers from Michigan, Ohio and Canada will fill Eastern Market with over a million of the highest quality annuals, perennials, foliage, shrubbery, trees, exotics, tropical plants, flats, hanging baskets and combination pots for purchase.

This event draws over 150,000 green thumbs, flower aficionados, photographers and more to Eastern Market each year, creating the largest event of its kind in Michigan.

Admission to the event is free.

The market runs all day, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., but get there early because all the best deals go quickly and by the afternoon a lot of things are picked over.

The Taco Life Chose Me (today)

Hola! Today’s P.O.T.D. (place of the day) is…

Place: Nuestra Familia (taqueria)

Location: Southwest Detroit, Michigan

Food: Chicken and Steak Taco Dinner

Drink: Horchata (rice water drink)

Southwest Detroit aka Mexican Town, is the BEST place for tacos! A taqueria is a Mexican restaurant specializing in tacos, and other Mexican food. There are dozens of taquerias in town but I chose Nuestra Familia because they never let me down. The first thing you’ll notice as you walk in is the rich and vibrant decor, the authentic furniture (most likely custom), and the mouthwatering smell of the freshly prepared food. On the weekends they have either a Mexican music band or mariachis. When the hostess guides you to your table an assigned waitress greets you with chips and salsas. I ordered the chicken and steak taco dinner with an horchata.

What is an horchata? In the Central American countries of El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Costa Rica, horchata refers to the drink known as semilla de jicaro, made from the jicaro seeds ground with rice and spices such as ground cocoa, cinnamon, sesame seeds, nutmeg, tiger nuts and vanilla.

February of 2017, I bought a roundtrip flight to Paris France for $500 via WOW! airline. My mind was going a million miles a second. This was my first international trip!
